KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Robert Ace
Still getting over a great night with KISS. Started off with a good warm up from the Screaming Jets then quiet a long delay until the arrival of the hottest band on earth. The crowd were really excited as I was to here sadly for the last time KISS go into Detroit Rock City . This is one of my favorite songs so I was into this show big time already. They pause after every song and the lights go out . Not sure why that was but probably to get crowd response. Paul is big on crowd feed back and continuely asked in a high pitched voice " how we doin Melbourne ?". This was obviously pre meditated as was a lot of other things they say and do . He really could have done without all that because the crowd were roaring all night . A more spontanious approach would have worked better. Which brings me to the legendary Ace Frehly .Ace seems to be the opposite of Paul and would probably be at home playing what ever comes up next kinda style . And man can he play He is the coolist guitar player on earth. He's laid back and genuinely seems to be having a ball . When he played "Talk To Me" it was as if someone wound the clock back . The guy was outstanding and brought back memories of when KISS were really KISS . Ace is definetely what the band has lacked in recent years . No one can play it the way he does . I was hopeing for 2000 Man but he went into Shock Me and my mate Stu thought it was classic material . Thats why KISS are so good, they can all sing and they all have a different style of performing . A lot has been said about Eric joining the band but I can say that was some of the best drumming I've heard and he sung a great version of Black Diamond . You can tell how good a singer Paul is when he done a solo of a few different songs all put in together . Hard Luck Woman was one as well as finishing with Shandi. He probably could have kept going with Shandi as the girls were really loving it and it brings out the best in his voice. This was actualy like a sing a long medley, the crowd loved it and it was just what the night needed to give our necks a rest from banging our heads . I thought he should've done his solo after he flew over the crowd to land on a small stage . Instead when he got to the stage Ace was doing his awesome solo of Love Gun . Paul was standing in the middle of the stadium doing nothing . To hear Gene belt out "Rock n Roll" left me feeling a bit sad because I knew I had just witnessed the hottest show on earth for the last time . Highlight for me was hearing Ace Frehley play like only he can . "Talk To Me" is still ringing through my head . I will never forget the last KISS .
