KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Todd Lowe
My brother and I arrived in Memphis around 6 pm. We were each lucky enough to catch a Rock 103 Kiss T-shirt thrown from a red convertible driven by Marky B , the rock and roll sports announcer for Rock 103.

The guys from Skid Row actually played and sounded better than I expected. This includes the new lead singer. He sang better than I thought he would, but he doesn't have the vocal range of S. Bach. Skid Row, by themselves, were better than the openers for the Reunion Tour and the Psycho Circus Tour.

So it was really great to have Ted Nugent on the show as an added bonus. The three piece band was tight. Tommy Aldridge is a great drummer, but he looks older than my grandma. She is in her 80s. Ted's political banter drew a lot of cheers and laughter. All in all it was a powerful set and good to hear some classic Ted Nugent.

You wanted the best.... This is what we all showed up to see. The set list was the same as listed in countless reviews. The intro, Detroit Rock City, was great with the band playing as they were lowered to the stage. The band sounded fantastic throughout the show. They do seem to be enjoying themselves. The "Mr. Wonderful" comments between Paul and Ace were funny. Ace played great all night. He was definitely on. He also moved around a lot more than I had ever seen him move before, doing a lot of spinning and stomping. His solo sounded great. I liked the medley of songs that he played during the solo. The only mistake was during Shock Me.Ace kicked into the solo after the 1st verse. Paul sang the second verse . Ace picked it back up and finished the song strongly. I am curious as to why Ace is "late" coming back to the stage. This happened several times. Paul and Gene had the crowd chanting Ace, Ace ,Ace at one point until he returned. The video footage shown during DoYou Love ME and other songs was pretty cool. The songs from the 80s worked very well with Ace and Peter. They both seemed to enjoy playing these songs. Paul is the greatest rock vocalist around and has been for years. He was in great form tonight. The Elvis impersonation was right on. Gene was in full demon mode. He really got the crowd going during his solo/God of Thunder/flying routine. Peter was solid all night. His playing was good. His vocals were better than I've ever heard him sing. Beth was terrific. It was good to see him smiling and having fun all night..

This show is definitely worth seeing. The band sounds great. The stage design is much improved. The special effects all went without a hitch. The effects are cool , but it is the music that makes the show. Kiss works best as a live experience, so don't miss your chance to see them for the last time. ACE, PETER, PAUL, GENE, Thanks for the memories.
