KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Jeff Wyatt
This started a great week for me. This was the first of 3 shows I had tickets for this week as I would be traveling to Nashville on Friday and Louisville on Saturday. The Memphis show was special to me because it's the first place i caught the Reunion tour. We got there about 5:30 and we heard the sound check from outside the arena. They did Psycho Circus, Shock Me, Detroit Rock City and another song.

I sat through Skid Row and it wasn't too bad. They played the 3 songs I know and sounded pretty good. Ted Nugent was uh, interesting. I have to say he did get the crowd worked up. Of course, I had my mind on the hottest band in the world. They didn't disappoint.

This may have been the best show i have ever seen them do. Everything worked great. I was really happy with the show. I'll admit that going into the show that I wanted a few obscure songs played....I didn't want them to drop anything from the set like alot of other people...I just wanted them to add a couple of old things to the set. When the house lights came back up, It didn't matter to me. They put on an amazing show. They didn't let us down. I went with a friend who has seen the guys over 40 times and we couldn't give them enough compliments. We had great seats. The crowd was into everything. There were four guys in the second row dressed like them head to toe and received a standing ovation from the crowd. There was a guy in the front row with a phantom of the opera mask on that had a Paul Stanley star painted over the eye. very cool.

The band came out and it's the best entrance i've ever seen them do. They began playing while being lowered down and Peter's drum kit was lowered as well. The set list was the same as the previous shows. They sounded as good as i've heard them ever. Paul sounded especially good. Paul was doing Elvis imitations(Thank you, thank you very much) When Peter sang "Paul's got you under his thumb"...instead of singing "I do", Paul belted out "Thank you, Thank you very much."

Ace forgot to sing the second verse to Shock Me and Paul laughed, rolled his eyes, and began singing. Ace spun around as he was playing the solo and then it hit him...he had forgot the second verse. He laughed at himself and they carried on.

I think the best thing about the show was the fact that there was alot of joking around and interaction between the guys. They seemed to be having a great time. The 80's songs sounded great and no, Peter and Ace looked like they enjoyed playing them. Peter has been getting destroyed on some of the reviews but I felt like he did a great job. He sounded really good and looking like he was drumming pretty hard. His vocals sounded really good as well. Ace was Ace. He hit all the solos and did a great job. Gene looked to be having a great time. He found someone who didn't want to stand in the secion next to us and stared at them with his arms folded until they stood. He smiled at them and moved on. He was really into the demon persona all night. Paul as always set the tone for the show. His vocals were on and he was very active. He sounded very sincere in thanking the crowd for its support over the years. I have to admit I could've easily gotten choked up several times during the show when I'd realize that this was one of the last times I'd ever see them. The video during "Do you Love me?" brings back so many memories and is extremely well done.

It was a great experience for me. I've seen them several times and this was probably the best concert I've seen. If you get a chance to see this tour, please see it. You will not regret it. I'll be updating later in the week on Nashville and Louisville.
