KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: E.T.
The band was having a good time last night and it was a great show. A GREAT SHOW! Everything was on the mark...a great way to see them off.

Earlier in the day, I was remembering the first time I saw KISS. It was when I was a new recruit in the Kiss Army - just a teenager - during the 1976 Destroyer tour. I recalled the classic apocolyptic stage set-up and Bob Seger opening the show. Then, I thought of the Dynasty tour in 1979 when the band wore the outrageous capes and what turned out to be Peter's last tour. Over the years, I was fortunate to see Kiss 9 times, plus one Kiss Konvention and an Ace and a Peter solo tour. Yea, I've been a loyal fan a long time and last night in Memphis was the swansong - and it was glorious!

First of all, let me say Ted Nugent can KISS MY ASS! The one good thing about him is that he let's you know he's a dumbass right from the start...forget about having to figure that out. So much for a bitter old man.

Kiss was hitting on all cylinders last night in Memphis. I saw them three times on the '96 Reunion tour and the best show I saw then equals last night's performance. I know you've heard all of this before, but the band is tight and made a fantastic noise. Just the four guys! The highlights were: Paul singing the second verse to Shock Me - and yea, that shocked me! Ace was off mike twirling around and Paul stepped up at the last second to sing it. That was cool.

Before Ace came back on stage to sing 2000 Man, Paul was wondering what was taking him so long and started making up stuff to say about Ace, Uranus, and outer space. And then finally Ace got on mike thanking Paul, calling him "Mr. Wonderful." In between song banter, Paul did an Elvis Presley impersonation that cracked up Gene. When singing the last line of Black Diamond, Peter said "Elvis, got you under his thumb" and then Gene threw in a "thank you very much."

The band was obviously having a good time in a city that they played on their first tour back in 1974! They actually played here 3 times that year!

Now that it's over and I think back on this show - I believe the performance of Do You Love Me? will stick in my mind. The old movies/videos they projected on the big screens during the song took me down memory lane and brought a big smile to my face. Kiss is calling it quits - but we can always remember the shows! If you get a chance, go and have a good time!

Oh, to be 14 again - in 1976 - and to go to a Kiss concert!
