KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Chris Mende
Despite having this show postponed a day due to Kiss' aircraft being grounded in Chicago due to weather on May 17th, the rescheduled show was very well received by the fans. I didn't hear any complaints, eventhough many people had to take another day off of work or adjust their schedule in some way to attend this rescheduled show. I was thinking that Kiss might apologize for not making the original date of the show, but pretty much all that was said was Paul telling the audience that good things come to those who wait. He was pretty much right. Kiss seemed to be fairly active all night running around the stage, entertaining the fans, like usual, but Ace was a bit more active than I remembered, especialy during the first few songs. He seemed to be into it. Everyone in the band played well, except for Ace, whom on occasion would miss some notes. Other than that, it was great. The only technical glitch I noticed was the center TV screen behind Peter's drum kit would go on and off randomly, especially when Peter and Gene would hit a few good notes together, the sound seemed to cut out the TV for a few seconds. One funny moment of the show was when Paul told the crowd that they looked beautiful....take a look at yourself and the center TV screen crapped out. He was looking at the screen when it went blank, so he told us to take his word for it, that we looked good. :) Kind of a bad moment for the TV to quit. Anyway, Peter impressed me for the night. He seemed to smile a lot more and get into the show pretty well. I remember that he seems to look like he's going to crap his pants on the stage, but this night was different. He seemed to be very confident and having a good time. A few bras and panties amde it onto the stage. It reminded me of when I saw Kiss in the '80's. Paul and Gene were hanging them on the Mic's and Guitars. I didn't notice any Topless women running around though :(

I have to say that this crowd was going crazy for Kiss. The fans were some of the most energetic that I've ever seen at a Kiss show. It was a full moon too! The only bummer of the whole show were the people in the upper tier who would throw beer all over everyone in the lower teir...in my section anyway. I got beer thrown on me like every other song. People were getting a bit pissed off after the 10th time. Besides the beer incidents, everyone was cool.

I just can't believe that this is my last time seeing Kiss....or so I think. It's really weird when I try to think of not seeing Kiss again, and that their Farewell Tour is probably half over as of now. I grew up with Kiss, like many of us...so I can't picture them not touring anymore. One interesting point of the show was when Paul asked the audience if they wanted to see Kiss come back and play for them again, and Paul seemed to back step a little and say, right after that, that it would be on this Tour before it's over...since Kiss won't be on another tour. Maybe I am making it into something it's not, but it has me wondering. After the show was all over, Kiss delivered what they came to do, and That was putting on a great show. I only wish there were more songs and more pyro! :)

Now for the opening bands. Skid Row was way the heck better than I thought theyd be. Much better than the "Ozone Monday" version of the band I previously seen. They were very active and seemed to be having a blast on stage. At first the crowd wasn't paying too close attention, but by the end they were pretty into it. They only play songs off the first two albums...nothing from "Subhuman Race". The only thing that bugged me a little was that their new Lead singer tried to look like Sabastian Bach. He acted a little dorky when he would talk to the crowd. He wasn't able to hit some of the high notes while singing, like Bach, but it was better than myself could do. Overall these guys rocked hard. I just wish Bach was in the Band still.

As for Uncle Ted Nugent...He was a madman! This is the second time I saw him. The first time was on the "Crazy Nights" tour opening for Kiss. This band also kicked major butt. They played hard and Nugent whaled on the guitar. The audience really got into his song that I think is called "Kiss my Ass". He was telling many major political figures to kiss his ass, and suck his dick. It was really funny! The crowd loved it. He also called "Prince" a purple fag. He brought Prince into the conversation because Minneapolis is where Prince is from. On the last song, he shot an arrow into his guitar and pyro burst around the guitar. They band members had to carry him off the stage. Ted was great! That's about all on the show. It was worth the money! :) Don't miss this show!
