KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Mark C.
What a great show! Skidrow came on at 7:00 and sucked. The lead singer is a David Lee Roth wannabe. They did the first half of "I Remember You" acoustically and he is no Sebastian Bach. If you miss them, it's OK. Ted Nugent, on the other hand, had a very tight three-piece group and was at the top of his game. He sang "Paralyzed", "Dog Eat Dog", "Cat Scratch Fever", "Stranglehold", "Great White Buffalo" (with a giant Indian head-dress), "Kiss My Ass" (his moronic attempt at being political) and "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang". At the end of "Great White Buffalo" he shot a guitar with his flaming arrow. After about an hour of Ted, it was time for KISS! We were on the 6th row on Ace's side. We looked up and saw a clear plexiglass platform with red splatters on it. It was the "God of Thunder" platform. (I guess they don't clean it in between shows!) The "Won't Get Fooled Again" song played through and right when it ended the big black curtain with the KISS logo fell. After a couple of Van Halen songs the lights went out and it was showtime! This was the closest I'd been to the stage since I walked up to the front in 1977 (same building) when I was in the 5th grade. Kiss descended on a platform and played the same set list as in the previous recent reviews. Paul spotted a girl with an obvious boob-job and motioned for her to start rubbing them. That lucky section must have had 20-30 picks thrown in their direction. If you are lucky enough to be in about the first six rows, you have a very good chance of getting a pick. The four people in my group got 2 Ace picks, 2 Paul picks, a Ted Nugent pick, and 2 unmarked Skidrow picks. Look under the seats during and after the show because they are hard to catch. Ace played bits of "Parasite", "Hard Times", "New York Groove", and "Ozone" during his solo. Peter played a brief solo during "100,000 Years". His drumming was fine although he looked like he wasn't hitting the drums very hard.!

"I Love it Loud" intro was booming as mentioned in previous reviews. Paul mentioned every date they had played in the past in Oklahoma City. (dating back to my first concert in 1977) I thought that was pretty cool to personalize it a little bit. Paul flew, Gene flew and spit blood. The only problems were the main screen in the middle messed up a few times and Ace's platform didn't rise at the end of the show. He seemed amused and Paul went over and tugged on it to no avail. So Ace stayed grounded while Gene and Peter were in the air and Paul smashed his guitar. The confetti was impressive. It just kept coming and coming. Even people off the floor got some. Over all, it was a great way to go out and Kiss gave their fans the ultimate thank you...an unforgettable evening. Make sure you get a $30 program. They have cool photos from the beginning to the present and have every concert date they have ever played listed!
