KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Robert Chadwick
KISS ROCKS THE OMAHA CIVIC AUDITORIUM!!! My best friend and I went to the Farewell Tour on Tuesday the 29th of August. This is my 2nd Farewell Tour. If my memory serves me right, I had seen them 12th time, included the Farewell Tour. My friend had been to the KISS concert third time, Alive/Worldwide, PC and this tour. It was the best show I ever witnessed. The building was packed. According to the local paper, more than 10,300 people – just about 200 short from a sold-out crowd. I was thinking, “Damn”. Because it would be awesome if the show was sold out and it would be their 4th time straight sold out here in Omaha since Alive/Worldwide Tour, including the Psycho Circus.

Here’s the story. The show was general admission. That's typical at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. We sat at the lower seat section on Gene's side. A little before KISS went onstage, the crowd began to chant, "KISS, KISS, KISS….". A few moment later the light went off and the fans still screamed "KISS, KISS…." really loud. Then the intro said “ALL RIGHT OMAHA…YOU WANT THE BEST, YOU GOT THE BEST, THE HOTTEST BAND IN THE WORLD, KISS!!!” All the sudden I felt a huge echo: BOOOOOM inside the building as if we had ONE big lightning strike. Instantly, the black curtain with huge silver KISS logo went down. Damn, I felt my body was full of electrification as soon as I saw my HEROS went lower to the stage from the truss. I LOVED THAT FEELING!! The crowd kept screaming, “KISS, KISS, …”. The fans were great that night.

There were some classic songs they played which I thought was fantastic such as Deuce, Firehouse, 100,000 Years, Shock Me, and few others. Ace did a great guitar solo during the 2,000 Man. When his guitar began to smoke and the crowd went “Ace, Ace…” and continued to chant when he shot the rocket at the truss. He looked in great shape and had balls that night. Ace is still a Spaceman!! God of Thunder was one of my favorite live song as Gene traditionally puked fake blood and flew. When Gene began to puke fake blood, the crowd went “Gene, Gene…” really loud. I really loved that moment!! Later on, I lost my voice completely when Paul wanted us to scream really loud prior to the Love Gun. After that, I couldn’t scream anymore. I got my voice back the next day. My co-workers knew where I was at the night before and informed me my voice sounded so strange.

The other day I read the fans’ review said Peter looked like he actually didn’t beat the skins while his drum tech played behind the stage. Well, that wasn’t case here. He DID beat the skins. He looked in great shape. Once in awhile, I watched Peter when he was on the giant screen and looked like he had a blast time. One moment that made me laugh: after they traditionally bowed right before singing Rock and Roll All Night. Gene and Peter was fooling around, dancing with one other. When Ace made a sprint toward off-stage, Gene went after, caught, and lifted him. They was laughing when Gene carried Ace few steps before putting him down. Apparently, they had a wonderful time clowning to each other!!

My last comment: I was very glad they gave us a chance to say “Good bye” before they hang up their platform boots. Honestly, it is hard for me to imagine I will not see them together anymore. But in some way I am glad because they can stay on the top all the time after the tour is over.

Thank you KISS for many, many years of great memories. I WILL NOT FORGET YOU, KISS!!!!!
