KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Steve Mitchell
I have been a KISS fan since 1976. I find the diversity of opinions in the reviews so far somewhat surprising. You won't find anything negative in this review. Does Paul jump and run around like he did 20 years ago? Of course not. Seeing KISS in 2000 is not going to be like seeing KISS in 1976 or 1979. And that is okay. Also, people are complaining about the set list. There are certainly songs that I would like to have heard - Strutter, Nothin' to Lose, C'mon and Love Me, Take Me, Hotter than Hell, Fits Like a Glove, Christine 16. When you have a band that has over 30 albums in their catalog, you can't expect to hear all the songs that you want to. KISS did play the songs that they are best known for and that is what you would expect from a farewell tour.

The opening video was a great review of their history and elicited great crowd response. After the video KISS was lowered to the stage from the lighting rig and kicked into Detroit Rock City - a great song to open the show with! From there they went into Shout It Out Loud which I always felt belonged in the beginning of the show. Gene sounded great during Deuce. Then came Heaven's On Fire. Great pyro during the chorus. Other highlights included Into The Void. Ace looked and sounded great. His guitar solo was very cool and he shot three rockets, one of them out over the crowd. The lighting was a little bit off on Gene when he spit blood so you really couldn't see it that well. It was better in Tucson the following night so it must have been an opening night glitch. During Rock and Roll All Nite they went crazy with the confetti. I have never seen so much confetti before.

I took my 4 year old son who was dressed up as Gene. The crowd loved him and Doc Mcghee walked up to him and gave him a Gene Simmons guitar pick. My son is bugging me to take him to another KISS concert so we are going to try to see KISS in New York in July.

They proved once again that they are the premiere rock show in the world. Their absence on the rock scene will be felt for many years. All I can say is "Thanks for all the years of great music, great shows, and the great times. I'm gonna miss you guys!"
