KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Bob
The facts: Tickets were 49.50 and 96.50. The place was full to the rafters. Parking was 13 big ones. Concert started at 7, Skid Row played 7-7:30. Mr Nugent 7:45-8:50, and KISS from 9:15-11:30. Who cares what Skid Row played? Ted: 'Stormtrooper', 'Paralized', 'Wang Dang', 'Free for All', 'Dog Eat Dog'. Next was a song, I think it was called 'Fred Bear' or 'Spirit of the Wild', Ted had the campfire lit in front of him and showed homemovies of hunting on the screen. Next something like 'Kiss my Ass', wherein he trashed gun control and said Charlton Heston was his President. 'Cat Scratch', 'Stranglehold' then a break to put on the Indian headdress and 'Great White Buffalo' and ended with the flaming arrow into the exploding guitar. He looked old, but was pretty lively and could still play like a mutherfucker. Two person band, drums and bass was faceless.

KISS: Lowered from the roof playing 'Detroit', 'Feeling Good?', 'Shout it', something like 'Yeah Yeah', 'Firehouse?', 'Do You Love Me', 'Dr Love', 'Buildings on Fire?' '2000 Man' and a long guitar solo while the others rested, Ace's guitar smoked and shot stuff off the ceiling. 'Psyco Circus' 'Lick it Up' 'God of thunder' where Gene goes up, 'Cold Gin' 'Makin Love', where Paul flyes, a slow dreary Paul solo song 'Love You?' Peter's big songs 'Black Diamond' and a solo 'Beth' sing along. Big finish with 'Rock and Roll all Night'. Gene played to the cameras and looked fat and old, Paul sang well and danced and pranced, neither looked like they could play their instruments as they were always pointing and flicking picks. There might be a tape playing for their parts, how do you play bass with one hand? Ace and Paul looked skinny and older, Ace filled in the show with his guitar but after Ted I realized that he wasn't that good. Peter played good and looked cute. Great show, constant 'we love you Portland' and 'how ya feelins' from Paul. Lots of security, audience was loud but not very loose, but lots of feedback between the croud and the band, the average age was about 40. No drugs at all that I could see. Tee shirts were 35 and up. Nobody in the croud was smoking or drinking or getting wild. It was a Monday night but still pretty lame croud compared to years gone by. Worth every penny, that was a Rock and Roll circus.
