KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Walter Trainum
I went to this show with a sadness that one should'nt have going to a KISS concert. Here I was going to see the greatest rock act in the world with my daughter Erica, and my friends Robert and Mike and I could'nt stop thinking about this being the last time that I will see Gene, Ace, Peter, and Paul together on stage. We arrived at the Richmond Coliseum at around 6:05pm. I watched Mike as we entered the building to get his reaction to this spectacle that we call a KISS concert. Mike had never seen the band live even though he has been a fan for 25 years. He was like watching a kid at Christmas. My daughter has been a KISS fan all of her life, having just switched her allegiance to the Backstreet Boys in 1997. It was good seeing her interested in KISS again! She is 13 and she has seen the band twice before on the Reunion Tour. My friend Robert was given a credit card by his wife and told to buy only ONE t-shirt. Imagine the damage he could have done. We went to the merchandise table and proceeded to unload a small fortune that should make Gene very happy. We got to our seats about 10 minutes before Skid Row hit the stage. The seats were the best that I have ever had for any concert. I find this very fitting as I was saying goodbye to KISS for what could possibly be the last time. Skid Row hit the stage followed by "Uncle Ted". I can say 2 things about Ted Nugent, He can play the Hell out of a guitar and he has possibly the ugliest drummer known in the free world. KISS came onstage at around 9:15pm to the opening chords of Detroit Rock City. They changed the set list a little with the placement of the songs. I won't reveal in what order they did them, but there was no new songs added. On our side of the stage(left) Paul and Gene both found ladies to their liking. Paul did a lot of licking his fingers and pointing to the young lady who then found it neccessary to show Paul what could be his, by exposing her breast! She was immediatly taken to the backstage area for God knows what! Gene found a similar looking blonde with "big ambitions" and proceded to point and make gestures to her that would make a sailor blush. Peter played very well on this night. I know that there has been criticism in the past about his drumming, he definitly picked it up a notch or two tonight. The band seemed to be having a good time with Peter smiling frequently during the show. After the last chords of Rock and Roll all Nite, I looked at my friend Mike who had never been to a KISS show before, and all he could say was "This is the greatest show I have ever seen!" I think he is kicking himself for waiting so long. To KISS I want to say Thank You. I can't imagine the state of Rock and Roll without you. There is no one that I see or hear, that can fill the gap that the four of you will leave behind. It is great to see my daughter in a KISS shirt again!
