KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Johnnie Clay
Well just got home it's 2am, all I can say is WOW! I've led a full life now. I've seen KISS three times counting tonight's show. Let me start at the beginning. My wife and I got there just as Skid Row was finishing up. She loves the Skids, they were finishing up "Youth Gone Wild." Then came terrible Ted Nugent. Having never seen Ted in concert I figured this would be cool, well it wasn't.

All of this pailed to compaired to the main event. The giant curtain came down but the top part came down a bit, so the roadie scaled up to the top to fix but couldn't. Didn't matter, here comes KISS. It was so cool...coming down like sun kings. My wife had never seen KISS so all of this was new. They opened up with Detroit Rock City (Sorry but I love to spell out the titles) and never lost steam. Shout it out loud was killer. Over 21,000 showed up at the Alamodome to see KISS and worth every penny. I did love the non-make up songs, I love it loud, Heavens on Fire and Lick it up. For those who wrote earlier saying that Ace and Peter were not involved in those songs...that's rubbish, all four of them were just tickled pink to be on stage and having a blast.

I was disappointed that the short movie wasn't show at the beginning like in Phoenix. But they used that during Do You Love Me, cool. We stood on our feet for the whole two and half hours. My voice is totally shot right now, I must have sung every song tonight, but I loved it. They are my heroes, I grew up with them and I was very sad at the last song when Paul said never forget us, we will never forget you. My eyes got watery at the thought that this was it. But on to the songs.

Deuce, excellent...(keep in mind not in order) Black Diamond, classic but the opening took forever, didn't matter. Highlights, hands down...Ace's solo...one word, WOW! Seemed to have went on and on...and everyone wanted more. Sprinkled a little bit of KISS classics, (if I remember right, Rocket Ride, New York Groove, Snowblind, She, and Parasite) then he said, that was 2000 now for 2001, a good rendition of the classic theme song.

Peter Criss showed no signs of being slow and old. He was right on all night. His voice held up too, especially during Beth. Gene Simmons was typical Demon, perfect...I must admit I held my breath when he went up in the air during God of Thunder, thinking about what happened in California and all. Paul Stanley's voice as grown over leaps and bounds these past few years. Guess it was all of that training getting ready for Phantom I guess. They covered a song from every album from the original line-up. Only 2000 Man from Dynasty. I was hoping for I Was Made For Loving You, but can't complain. My only regret was I wanted to hear Shandi, from Unmasked, I have always loved that song. Love Gun was another gem, Paul flying through the air was cool. He landed about 3 yards away, I tried to get his attention but he didn't see me. Another highlight was when they did a group hug right after I think Black Diamond, then they took their bows. Rock and Roll All Night lasted forever, sure wish it would have too. They shot a ton of confetti out too...reaching the back of the dome, but none got to where I was at, *pout*.

Then just like that, it was over and they were gone. I felt this empty void as I walked out of the dome, I kept looking back at the stage as it was starting to be taken down, wanting to savour every bit of it, like fine wine. But I just wanted to say to KISS, thank you. Thank you for taking a grown man of 33 back to a time when through a child's eyes, he saw his heroes for the first time. All the wonder and amazement was still there and always will be. Now as they say goodbye, it's not really; we have memories and precious moments that no one can take away from us. But that's KISS, and we wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you, Ace, Gene, Peter, Paul. You are America's answer to the Fab Four, I don't care what anyone else says, that's what you are to me and always will be.
