KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Jules Barnett
This was the 3rd time I got to see the band thats had the biggest effect on my life.I love Sydney and it was great to see KISS there (I'm from Auckland,New Zealand).Getting to the venue from Bondi was so painless thanks to the Kick ass public transport Sydney has to offer in fact everything about the service in Sydney is the Shit,no wait for anything. So my friend and I get to the superdome at 7:30,we can hear the Screaming Jets playing in the main areana but decide to hang around the lobby,go out for a few smokes, visit the bar check out other fans.I saw some really bad Paul Stanley Make up jobs, you know the ones -star on the wrong eye.best make up jobs were the Genes, which ther were a lot off,Not nearly enough Ace's.WHAT THE HELL WAS UP WITH THE MERCHANDISE!?!?much to expensive and not alot on offer.8:30 the Jets finnish ther set and my friend and I take our seats in the Paradise section.Great fuckin'venue though sadly not open air,oh well,no fireworks display tonight. No matter. The roadies Have cleared away the Jets backline and The Who's "won't get fooled again"is playing through the P.A. ...Its comming!.As the song drops to the middle section with keyboards I lean over to my friend and tell her to keep an eye on the stage. The drums start to kick in for the last half of the song all big loud tom-toms...My god its comming!...I stand up and wait for it.Pete Townsends Powerchord chrashes in and with Roger's "Yeeaahhh!tearing through the venue The a black curtain drops down from the lighting rig to display a silver KISS logo and the crowd roars(well kinda,They seem a bit reserved tonight)Man I love the curtain fall. The next song ends to the sound of screeching brakes as the house lights dropped and that bass rumble filled the areana. It felt like 2 minutes til the intro was spoken..."the hottest band in the world KISS!!!!DA-na DA-na DA-na DA-na DIGGA-DA DIGGA-DA DIP BOOM-BOOM!!!the curtain fell and there they were decending from the light ing rig BUT WHERES THE PYRO ?? I can see it But cant here the concussions.this was a problem all night, more of a CRACK rather than a BOOM!nevermind everything else was awesome.Paul looked incredible for his age,Gene too,he did have trouble remembering lyrics to I love it loud singing the same verse over and over but shit can you blame him?there are alot of words in that one.Eric did what he was payed to do very well and as a drummer myself I enjoyed his solo though I found the flaming sticks/Triggered drums section a litte hokey.Ace Frehley has always been my fave.I'd pay to just watch him drink, but tonight he really impressed me with how hard he worked and how together he'd kept himself for this gig.he's still a bit fried though"Sydney I got a question for you! Talk to me!"...ah no Ace...Thats a statment, anyway he really lived up to the Mr Excitement title tonight. He was loading up on picks to throw big time, everytime he returned to the stage(last!)he had a new drink or shirt to throw into the crowd, hell at one point I thought he was gonna toss paul into the audience!!I really liked his solo too it seemed fresh ,not the same old licks, his guitar smoked and kept smoking all the way up to the lighting rig.when he returned with the rocket launcher he said something like"I knew this was gonna be the best show on the tour, you rock sydney!"The 2001 thing sounded better than I imagined,oh and something else, if you remember how the second rocket would knock a Light out so it would hang from the rig,the new effect now is that three lights and a pole crash down on to the stage in a controlled fall, this looks way fuckin' cool.ITS PLANNED OKAY!!Ace really got around the stage and made good use of the set...up the stairs, walking along the Randell stacks and th..RANDELL STACKS??!!!!what happend to MARSHALL...what ever. KISS gave the Best concert I've seen(yeah I know it was only my third)they really had fun, while gene was in the lighting rig doing the "Oh Yeah!" Bit he suddenly said "G'DAY MATE",that got a laugh from the crowd, and when they all came out for the standing bow Ace was doing this silly sideways moonwalk type thing with a drink in one hand and a 'whos # 1" grin on his face.this show was so good I remember thinking at the time I want to be here the rest of my life...........KISS I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU!!!!!!!!
