KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Scott Harris
KISS is my favorite band. First time I saw them live was on the Dynasty tour at Madison Square Garden and I was 10 years old. It also was my first concert. Anything that I have seen since has never lived up to that show except for seeing them live again...full makeup...full 70's set...I think you know what I mean. I have seen many Kiss shows (Dynasty, Asylum, Crazy Nights, Hot in the Shade, Revenge, 4 Paul Stanley solo shows, endless Ace Frehley's comet shows, even the shows at the Ritz with Eric Carr and they started to do older material again, The Reunion Tour 3X at the Garden 1 time at Nassau, Psycho Circus at the Garden...) When I heard that Kiss was doing this farewell thing, I was in disbelief. I couldnt believe when I watched the preview show on FOX at the beginning of this tour that it was a farewell tour. I watched the show streamlined at this site and I thought it was really sad.

Sad that they were really saying goodbye as a unit. We real Kiss fans all know that there is problems between Ace and Gene, and just general ego problems going on, but as any great musicians know, it all dissapears when the music is played. I got my tickets for Jones Beach when the went on sale, and I was psyched to see Kiss in a smaller venue than the usual Stadium deal. Finally June 9th arrived, and i stared at my "Rock and Roll Over" screensaver all day at work. I was totally not at work mentally...I wanted to be in that ARENA! I listened to Kiss allday at work, Five o'clock finally came! Jumped the subway uptown to meet my wife and my brother-in-law to drive to Jones Beach. We finally got there and we missed Skid Row and planned to miss Ted (in using the time to drink a 32 oz bottle of Pepsi and Southern Comfort in the parking lot). I think the only other time i have ever felt any type of comrade feeling amongst fans were at Dead Shows or at a rave. Everyone was so friendly and psyched to see their heroes. By the time Kiss hit the stage i was pretty well lit and let me tell you Kiss fans, stop nitpicking the technical aspect of the playing (we all know Peter is in his mid 50's and oh well his funky breakbeat drumming style of the Alive I days are long gone, Ace is somewhat sloppy probably due to too much Klonipan/weed/alchohol/and coke and he might of been on something that night i'm sure he was, that Gene's voice is totally shot, and Paul Stanley well...he's the one that carries the show and he's always in topform/and oldskewl Kissfans know alot of Paul's upper register stuff is just plain Asylum 85-style and he should stop some of those changin up the vocal melodies to Love Gun and stick to oldskewl) and get into the experience. I dont care what anyone says but a little southern comfort goes a long way. It's all about rock and roll and a KISS show isnt a Yes or Rush show. It's about KISS, its about their roots, their glam roots that is, and The Dolls and even the Bowie Ziggy Stardust shows were far from flawless. Enjoy the concert fans, and the experience of seeing them that one last time!

I personally would of like to hear some fluctuation in their set...I mean I think of Kiss like the Dead or the Allmans in that the fans are so into them, many of them go to multiple shows. Let's hear "I want you" or something strange like "Parasite" or "Got to Choose". I'm not gonna go through the set cause its the same every show. But they were awesome just really great. Paul Stanley is right in saying that there arent many rock and roll shows to go to anymore. How many can you think of? Can ya count them on one hand? This is the end of an era, i was a bit teary eyed when at the end of Beth Peter said..."Thank you New york for givin us so many great years"..

ALL I CAN SAY IS...IF YOU WENT TO ONE SHOW IT WASNT ENOUGH...GO TO MORE!!! IM GOIN TO 2 MEADOWLANDS SHOWS AND WHATEVER GARDEN SHOWS THERE ARE...KISS RULZ!!!!
