KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Steven Fallon
First time I have ever seen Kiss outdoors, it was great to actually be cool and not all sweaty for a concert since Jones Beach (which recently expanded to 14,000 seats) is on the water. First of two sold-out Kiss shows was good, they actually were a bit better than I expected, all four of them seemed into it and Paul had a lot of energy. But again, I hate to say but Kiss is simply screwing the fans with their set list.

I know Paul says they must play the Kiss "hits" (translation: most popular songs) and OK fine if they don't wanna do rarities I can accept that, but what about all the "hits" they do NOT play and ignore? "Hard Luck Woman", "Christine Sixteen", "I Want You", "C'mon and Love Me", "Nothin' To Lose", songs like this are as well-known as so many of what they played, even more so. I can't believe even casual fans would rather see "100,000 Years" (which they drudged through yet again) than songs like that. Even "Let me Go Rock and Roll" didn't get that much of a reception from the crowd.

And how about their biggest rock hit, "I Was Made For Loving You"? Nowhere to be found. Paul even used an intro he sometimes used for that song to intro the lame "Lick It Up". However, the other 80's tunes, "Heaven's On Fire" and "I Love It Loud" were interesting to see and sounded good. The first verse of "I Still Love You" before "Black Diamond" was really good, but again if Kiss wants to play just hits and songs people know, why that one, the vast majority of the crowd didn't seem to know what song it was.

The only plus with the set list to me was "2000 Man" which I personally have never seen them do before. But quite honestly, the set list just sucked. I'm actually going back tonight (June 10th), and for the first time in my life I'm not to thrilled about an upcoming Kiss concert. They simply are boring the fans to death with the same songs, proven but the constant under-whelming responses they got with many songs they played.

The show in general was good. They played well, the effects all worked, and Paul even seemed a bit over the top with his raps especially early in the show, kinda talking unusually fast for him. Peter had his usual few mess-ups but the band plays over them fine. Peter seemed in really good spirits, and "Beth" is a "typical" Kiss song I never get tired of them doing.

So overall, it was a pretty good show, but extremely typical. I've been reading attendance reports and most of the shows on the tour aren't sellouts, it seems maybe that fans are wising up a bit and won't pay for the same 'ol stuff. Me, I can't help feeling like I've wasted another 60 bucks for tonight's concert.

Opening acts - I'm not sure if Skid Row even played, but I caught half of Nugent. Bottim line - I hate saying anything so negative but Nugent sucks. He was so foul-mouthed and disgusting with his raps, I can't believe Kiss has him on the tour considering there always are a decent amount of families children in the Kiss crowd. Didn't Kiss say that they are concerned about that stuff? If so, no anymore more, because that moron Nugent can't speak two sentences without using words like "c**k", "p***y", "faggot", "f**k", "s**t", and many more like them. He calls himself a republican, but he disgraces republicans everywhere with his garbage. And his music - frget it. It hasn't lasted through time IMO and simply sounds horrible. Why on Earth Kiss has this sewer-mouthed s**t-kicking dinosaur on their tour I'll never know. I lost some respect for Kiss for thew allowing a forum for Nugent to spew crap in front of little kids.

I'll always luv KISS but this tour does them no favors. Maybe it is time to just split. Congrats also on the new look at KISSAsylum, Kiss should thank they're lucky stars for you guys and the loyal fans that go to the website.
