KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Per Zetterlund
Right, here we go again. I am back in Osaka (where I live) after having attended also the second Yokohama show, and again, I was fortunate enough to have a great ticket second row on Paul’s side! The arena was pretty much full last night (as opposed to on Friday, when there were some empty seats in the back), and the audience also seemed to be more fired up. Personally I enjoyed it more than the first show. I thought I was gonna go crazy when they started Detroit and all of a sudden they were right there in front of me playing those familiar chords. I mean holy shit!!! Like I said, I was on Pauls side, but he did spend an unusual amount of time over on the other side, much to the delight of my younger brother who was in the 5th row on Genes side, and is also mainly a Paul fan like myself.

As has been posted already, the set list was identical to the first night. The only difference that might fall under setlist was that Paul did not use those sound meters before flying out to do Love Gun, don’t know why. By the way, those meters are fake, right? I mean on Friday, everyone screamed like crazed beasts the first few times, but didnt make those suckers go into the red, but they did later when we were all pretty much voiceless! Anyways who knows maybe they are real.

Pauls singing was incredible last night as well, his voice was cutting thru the air like a knife. His I still love you version (him and guitar only) is great, awesome singing.

Gene seemed unhappy with his mike at times, and Paul complained (into his mike) about “lower end feedback (I think thats what he called it). I didn’t notice any feedback though, but again, I was in a state of trance and may not have been too observant.

About Eric Singer; the first night he really did play a lot like Peter minus the mistakes. I got the feeling that last night he was more like himself, started to do more of his things (not too much though in my view). I am not sure though, maybe I just didn’t notice the first night. He does have only one bass drum, but I am 99% sure he has two pedals hooked up to it, meaning that for any practical purpose he does have two bass drums like he normally does. He doesnt use them as he normally would though, only at times, like in his drum solo for example.

There was some girl lurking around on Aces side (in the VIP area), who seemed to know Ace. Short brown hair, fairly tall and slender, maybe in her late twenties. During the drumsolo Ace was talking to her. Don’t know what Aces woman situation is like, but she appeared to be part of it, and I don’t think she was some groupie kind of girl.

I also saw this little kid being escorted around the VIP area by a large woman. The kid was like 6-7 maybe, brown slightly curly hair and I thought he kind of had Pauls eyes. I was thinking it might have been his son (Evan?), as I heard he is with Paul here in Japan.

Anyways, all in all, a kick-ass show again, just awesome. I was practically shedding tears of joy and excitement at times. I wont make the Tokyo and Fukuoka shows, but I will attend Nagoya and the two in Osaka. So 3 more to go!! Now I must try to get some work done this week!
