ERIC SINGER Q&A - KISS Hell eXclusive - 9/14/02
KISS HELL: What have you been up to lately?
ERIC SINGER: Playing gigs this past summer w/ Gilby Clarke, Ronnie Montrose, Alice Cooper and KISS events.

KH: How's the Alice tour going?
ES: We have only done 4 shows so far. We have 3 months of shows coming up. Go to AliceCooper.com for tour dates.

KH: Will you be working with Alice on his next studio album?
ES: I have no idea what plans Alice has at this time.

KH: Can you tell us about the song you did on the Avantasia-Metal Opera CD?
ES: It was a ballad. I have not heard the final mix yet...

KH: How did you get involved with playing on Avantasia part 2?
ES: I met Tobias Sammet in Austria a few years ago. I really liked his talent & we became friends. He asked me to play on that song...

KH: Can you tell us about your new signature snare drum?
ES: It is a 10 ply maple 14"x 6 1/2" silver sparkle finish (laquer). 3 air vents. Great drum & very loud!!!! I Wanted something that would cut thru loud volume music but also had warmth for other types of music as well.

KH: How was it to do 'That 70's Show'? Will KISS be on an episode or just the promo video?
ES: It was fun. It was done for an ad campaign to promote the show going into syndication 5 nites a week.

KH: How was it to return to the studio with KISS to record "Rock & Roll Radio"(Ramones cover)? How would you rate the version?
ES: I am very comfortable in the studio w/Gene & Paul. We have done enough over the years & I think I know what they want & like. They also are always very open to my suggestions & are willing to try what I may have in mind too. The version is really cool (I think).

KH: There's rumours of 2 new tracks to be used for ALIVE IV, has there been anything recorded for it that you know of?
ES: Not that I know of...

KH: Have you been working on any new KISS demos? Any KISS news?
ES: Nothing new recorded or to report at this time.

KH: What are your feelings on KISS touring with or without Ace Frehley in the future?
ES: I really like Ace & would hope for his involvement. I know that Gene & Paul feel the same too.

KH: How has the current Alice set list changed since Brutal Planet? Is "Halo Of Flies" back in the set?
ES: You will have to come to a show & see!!! 'Halo' is not in the set.

KH: What inspired the flaming drumsticks in your solo?
ES: I wanted to do something that I feel was somewhat entertaining for the fans. I have not done this w/Alice since 2000 Brutal Planet tour. I did do it w/KISS last year in OZ.

KH: Are you jamming with Glamnation or any other side projects lately? ES: No side projects... I did do some shows w/Ronnie Montrose & Gilby Clarke this past summer as well as some stuff w/Queen (Brian May & Roger Taylor).

KH: What's planned for the near future?
ES: Alice Cooper Dragontown tour. Sept. 23rd thru Dec. 15th.

KH: Any last messages for the readers of KISS HELL?
ES: AS ALWAYS THANKS JOE & ALL YOU!!! PEACE/OUT. ES.

DORO PESCH Revives "Legends Never Die"
I interviewed Doro Pesch last week & asked a few KISS related questions since her new CD Fight has a new version of the Gene written song "Legends Never Die." DORO says she decided to record "Legends Never Die" cause she'd always liked the song & as a tribute to one of her guitarists who recently died, he was a big KISS fan & played one of his last shows in LA when Gene Simmons was in the crowd. She's familiar with Wendy O's version & says they were friends. I asked how she first met with Gene before he produced her 1990 album. She was offered to introduce KISS at a Monsters Of Rock fest. in 1988 & then in '90 she wanted to send Gene a birthday card & had her manager help with it & a few months later in NYC "my manager said somebody wants to talk to you & I thought it was maybe an old German friend & I went to 57th Street & my manager said 'it's Gene Simmons' & I almost fainted. I had to run around the block 3 times before I could.., I've never been so nervous & it was Gene sitting there & I told him I'd like to work with him on something." Doro says she hadn't seen a producer get so involved before & was planning a blues song & Gene suggested they go see some live blues shows first, along with co-writing & other ideas for that album, titled DORO, which includes her cover of "Only You." DORO's favorite KISS album is ALIVE II. Watch for the full interview in Metal Hell #10.

Darkhorse Comic Review
KISS 'Darkhorse comics' Issue #1 - I picked up the 2 different covers of the new Darkhorse comic. It seems to have more of the classic Marvel superhero style of the 77-78 comics, instead of the ultra modern & exaggerated art & vague story lines in the Psycho Circus series. In this issue Paul & Gene are introduced without make-up at first. Paul's an artist & Gene's a big buisness man before they're called back to superhero duty & then costumes/makeup appears. Ace appears at the beginning 'Prologue' in make-up (76 costume) & again uses the name 'Celestial.' The look used is a mix of 76/77 costumes with some variations. There's a cool section of Gene riding a Demon-motorcycle & kicking ass with his dragon boots. At the end Peter appears & this leaves you hanging for next issue (where 'The Beast King rejoins his old teammates'') The back has a preview of the cover for #2, which like this one is more cartoon-ish than the P.C. series.

Q&A With Eric Singer
KISS HELL: How did it feel to return to KISS & play with the band in make-up?
ERIC SINGER: Playing with KISS again this time was so cool!! I felt like a little kid again!! Very inspired... Like a dream come true :-) When I was on stage I felt like I was in another world seeing Gene/Ace & Paul playing in front of me & then realizing that I was playing drums with them... IN MAKE UP!!! Very surreal feeling.....

KH: What music are you listening to lately?
ES: I know this sounds boring... I listen to talk radio here in L.A., although I do like Incubus....cool voice on the singer! I usually listen to most of my older CD's (stuff I grew up on). There are some interesting bands out there. I would like to hear more melodies in the tunes though.....hey every generation has their own thing...

KH: Recently the 1st Badlands CD was re-released. What are your opinions of that album in retrospect?
ES: I think it is cool that some people may still care or be interested in that band anymore... I thought that BADLANDS was going for a more raw sound & dryness in the recording process... something that nobody was doing at that time, this was before Soundgarden/Nirvana/Alice In Chains, etc.. I remember people commenting that the record was so "dry" sounding "like an old record." I really liked the bands musical direction. Too bad we all couldn't see eye to eye on a buisness level. I felt the band had potential that was never realized...

Badlands review
BADLANDS - On June 26th Koch Records will release the out of print 1st Badlands album on CD. Includes a small booklet with liner notes from (BW&BK editor) Martin Popoff, & the unreleased track 'Ball & Chain.'
Review: In 1989 when glam copycats were ruling the homogenized 'metal' scene Badlands popped up like a metallized 80's Montrose supergroup. Jake E Lee's 1st post Ozzy album showcases his classic rock structures & ability to go from slow Blackmore jams ('Rumbling Train'), to acoustic Zep-like songs ('Seasons', 'Jade's Song') to full on shredding acrobatics on under-rated classics like 'High Wire' & (the 2 video songs) 'Dreams In The Dark' & 'Winters Call.' Eric Singer added to the chemistry with clever drum parts, like the intro to 'Hard Driver', (which he displays on his 1995 drum instructional video). Ray Gillen (R.I.P.), a former Sabbath singer, made his recorded highlight on this album with Euro-flavored soulful vocals. Greg Chaisson on bass rounded out the line-up (& later recorded a solo album with Eric on drums).. The unreleased 'Ball & Chain' is a mid paced riff rocker that's one of the best 5 songs on the album easily. This was one of my favorite albums of 1989 & still sounds just as good.

KISS Hell's KAOL Spirit of 78¹ CD ROM Review
By Mike Moon for KISSHELL

1. 7:04 Benny Bruce - This is a short documentary about his involvement with KAOL. This is really a cool interview, he owns the 1972 wall calendar Gene recently sold at the auction. It shows the first show they played as a 3 piece in November. His musical contributions to KAOL have obviously been priceless.

2. 3:40 Black Star - This band based out of Montreal really know how to party. Shows them in the studio performing Master and The Slave for Creatures Of The Net. Also has some live footage of them performing Strutter and Rock and Roll All Nite at the 2000 Montreal music festival. The highlight is them performing a popular song from the hillbilly variety show Hee Haw.

3. 4:04 Dale Sherman - Hilarious interview as Dave auditions to be on the CD. Highlight of this is when Bill Starkey interrupts and asks Dale to sign his World Without Heroes book. Dale acts like he doesn`t know who he is and laughs it off when Bill tells him he started the KISSARMY. Very funny stuff which shows Dale may not only be a great writer but also quite possibly a good comedian.

4. 2:15 Destroyer - This is a great tribute band performing their version of Rockin In The USA with lots of live footage from them. Very cool, these guys rock!

5. 7:21 KAOL Artists - This shows the performers of the song Goodbye recording the vocals for the song. A great video showing KAOL coverage in various magazines. Highlights include the Childrens hospital of Wisconsin and some great footage of Eric Carr. This one tugs at the tears. We miss you Eric...

6. 3:00 Nile Carter - Nile performs Mr. Make Believe and part of See You Tonight acoustically. Cool if you are Nile, but this is the only boring part of this CDROM.

7. 5:12 Partridge Family Tribute Band - Partridge Family look alikes perform Shout It Out Loud Partridge Family style during one of there shows at The House Of Blues. Hilarious stuff that has to be seen to be believed.

8. 4:28 Reverb - Awesome Metal band from Japan performing I`m Down which is a great original song. I hear Maiden/Loudness influence all over this song. This tune is full of fiercely clean, tight licks. I was very impressed with this band and would love to hear more from them.

9. 4:29 Rolando D`Lugo - Shows him performing Christine 16 on Latin television. He does some television show appearances plugging Creatures Of The Net. Really cool how he made this effort known to the Latin community.

10. 1:37 Steve Sizemore - This guy has numerous KAOL appearances under his belt. This is him in the studio recording Love In Chains. Really too bad it isn`t the whole song as this is one of my favorites on the CD.

If all of this isn`t enough included are 2 great wallpapers from KAOL3`s great cover and the Spirit Of 78¹ drawing inside. MP3`s featuring radio ads and interviews for KAOL are also here. The highlight of these are Kathy`s impressive musical arrangements. The CDROM alone is worth the price and I recommend picking this up soon. I understand the first pressings are already gone. Kathy has truly outdone herself with KAOL and I am proud to be a part of it. Not only is this for a great cause,(Alzheimers) but there is essential stuff on here if you are a KISS fan who wants the best in a great tribute package. I really wish it wasn`t time to say Goodbye.... Thanks Kathy!

KISS Hell's KAOL 3 CD Review
K.A.O.L. 3 'The Spirit Of '78 (Musicare Online) - Nothing reminds me of 1978 more than the KISS solo albums. Casablanca's blatantly excessive marketing of KISS was never this glorious & over the top, before or after. Up to Double Platinum that same year, fans were used to KISS rocking out most of the time, the solo albums changed all that & introduced many new musical styles. This double CD contains 23 covers from the 4 solo albums (& 1 from Eric Carr's Rockheads 'Too Cool For School'), 11 music videos on CD Rom, bonus MP3's, 16 pg. booklet, window sticker & KAOL magnet. Album art is based around the solo albums & puts Paul, Ace, Gene, Peter & Eric Carr together, spelling out KAOL3 within their makeup. The art & packaging are good enough to make this an official release & the production is pristine. Starting with a worthy version of Tonight You Belong To Me by (tribute band) Destroyer, Domino does Hooked On Rock & Roll. Rip It Out (Sand) is slowed down with heavy groove & southern feel. The Catman Medley is a fun combination of 4 Peter songs (Freak & Geek). Bone Daddy makes a return with their fast version of I Can't Stop The Rain. Ending with an all star Goodbye, with members of all bands involved in singing verses & sharing the chorus, with altered lyrics about KAOL's dreams & accomplishments. A great conclusion to the KAOL trilogy. Sad to see this tribute series come to an end.. how about a KAOL box set? KAOL unplugged? KAOL Alive? At any rate check this CD out. ALICE COOPER (with Eric Singer) BRUTALLY LIVE Video/DVD
There's a new Alice Cooper DVD/video out called Brutally Live. Recorded in London early on the Brutal Planet tour, it includes the entire show with 24 songs in the set. DVD extras include the video for 'Gimme' & an alternate 'Alice' angle on 6 songs. Includes: Brutal Planet, Gimmie, Go To Hell, Blow Me A Kiss, 18, Pick Up the Bones, Feed My Frankenstein, Wicked Young Man, Dead Babies/Dwight Fry/Love The Dead, Devils Food-Black Widow instrumental w. Eric Singer drum solo. Eric does a kick ass solo & plays with flaming sticks on see through drum kit. Also includes: No More Mr. Nice Guy, It's Hot Tonight, Caught In A Dream, It's The Little Things, Poison, Take It Like A Woman, Only Women Bleed, You Drive Me Nervous(Alice introduces band), Under My Wheels, Schools Out, Billion Dollar Babies, My Generation & Elected. This is the first full length Alice video to feature Eric on drums. The rest of the lineup is: Pete Freezin-guitar, Ryan Roxie-guitar, Teddy 'Zig Zag' Andreadis-Keyboards, Greg Smith-bass & Calico Cooper as the nurse/dancer. This gig captures this tour well & brings back memories for those who saw it. One of Alice's coolest stage shows in years. Enough cool stuff to make you ALMOST forget he doesn't bring out the snake this time.

KISS Hell Online Farewell Tour Photos
Joe D of KISS Hell Online attented a number of concerts on the KISS Farewell Tour and wanted to share some photos he took at the Ft Worth, TX August 23, 2000 and Witchita, KS August 28, 2000 shows. [View The Photos]

A FAREWELL TO KINGS - Witchita, KS * 8/28/00
I saw my 4th farewell show last nite in Witchita. This was a general admission show so fans were lined up early.

We found the venue (same place they played in 96) & went backstage. I met Rachael Bolan from Skid Row first who was cool enough to take time to talk. We walked out where minutes later a silver van & a black car pulled up. In the van were: Ace, Peter, Paul, Dave 'Snake' Sabo & Tommy Thayer. Peter & Ace walked through the backstage area (no makeup) but wouldn't sign anything. We saw Gene outside next to the van on his cell phone & thought we'd have better luck, Gene signed a few autographs & asks my friend (wearing Metallica R&R Over shirt) 'Is that a bootleg?' No Gene it's their fan club shirt! Skid Row had a larger turnout due to the general admission seating getting the crowd there earlier.

Before Ted's set we got to meet Tommy Aldrige, who was cool enough to take a photo. Ted fired up the crowd who had started bodysurfing.

I went to find the media entrance to get to the pit at 8:45. Again, we were lead through stage left after the curtain was out. I got to shoot 'Detroit' & 'Deuce.'

Due to the small town aspect, the crowd was MUCH louder than Ft. Worth, & much rowdier. As KISS played the small moshes & bodysurfing continued (something I've never seen in 19 KISS shows). No change in setlist. A few highlights were: Firehouse, 2000 Man (a row of 4 spots fell down after 2nd rocket). Heaven's On Fire got a loud reaction & the flames flew high. Girls had shirts lifted all over. Psycho Circus as always sounded better than the album. Gene & Paul's flying went perfectly. 100,000 Years had extended rapping & microphone spinning from Paul over Peter's drumming. During Paul's solo he told someone with a lazer 'I'm gonna shove that thing up your a**, there's 10,000 people here that wanna have a good time & 1 a**hole is too many..' the lighters lit all around to the tune of I Still Love You & the Black Diamond intro. Peter's vocals were weak on Beth. The band came out & bowed, Ace threw something to the right side & said into the mic. 'no, give it to the girl..' Paul said we were gonna see some band there & remember when all we wanted to do was Rock & Roll All Nite & Party Every Day! The national anthem closed with confetti, singalong, pyro, fire, sparks, Ace's spark spitting lit up les paul, Paul's guitar breaking & the risers going up. The ceiling wasn't so high & the ending pyro hit the very top. Paul again said 'Don't forget us, we'll never forget you, we'll see you in your dreams!'

KISS - FT. WORTH, TEXAS - 8/23/00
A 2nd run through Texas gave us a chance to catch up with the greatest show on earth. Upon arriving to the arena it seemed like one problem after another. The local staff were morons who knew nothing about KISS or how to work their show.

We walked around back & met Scotti Hill from Skid Row, & asked for a photo & the camera wouldn't work, Scotti was totally patient & waited until it did. Skid's set was basically the same songs with the crowd coming in as they played. Johnny Solinger seems to be getting more comfortable with the band. Ted & band got the place a little rowdy, I went to find the 'media entrance' (noone working there knew what it was, but that was what we were told to find). So photographers are waiting outside minutes before KISS & a friend noticed they were handling them inside & not the window we were told to go to... After "We Don't Get Fooled Again" & 2 Montrose songs played ("Rock The Nation" & "Bad Motor Scooter") the lights dimmed & we were lead in.

"D.R.C." started off with the band on their decending lifts, smoke poured out, pyro blasted & KISS were back in full force. "Deuce" is a rush to see from the pit. The band always seems really into playing this song. The same set followed ("Love It Loud", "Shock Me", "Firehouse", "Dr. Love") On "2000 Man" Ace did a great solo & then goes "Alright Houston!" (in Ft Worth), I had to laugh, it was just classic.

Gene's solo was evil as hell with blood & flying working to full effect. "100,000 Years" lead to "Love Gun" with Paul flying out. Paul did "I Still Love You" before "Black Diamond."

"Rock & Roll All Nite" was an awesome closer with everything you love about KISS-fire, smoke, confetti, guitar smashing, sing along, etc..) After the show Mike tells me "I saw Eric Singer" & I'm like "no way dude", but he WAS there, we saw him when the lights came up & went up to say hi really quick.

The band's definitely tighter than last April & there's some cool new merchandise available like, a cube desktop 2001 calendar, the normal 2001 calendar, a new event shirt-with different front design, Dressed To Kill shirt, & about 3 other new shirts.

Great show, great fans, great town, I'm going to miss these guys.

Nightmare Child - Video Game Review
I bought the Nightmare Child the day it hit store shelves. I am a huge KISS & video game fan. Most of my games are Playstation so I was dissapointed they didn't release it on that format, hopefully they will later because I think this game would have better control & navigation on Playstation. The graphics are remarkably intense and it pulls you in quickly. There's a lot of hidden things-a working jukebox, crates you must break open & shelves you have to jump on. If you want to relieve some stress there is no better way than popping this in and chopping up some spiders! The sound is great & there is plenty of blood when they are walloped. They did a great job with this, it's not a cheesy kid game and I think it will be popular with p.c. gamers as well as KISS fans. * Review by Mike Moon

KISS Unauthorized Video Review
From: Joe D. / KISS Hell Online
KISS - UNAUTHORIZED (Video Review) - The Unauthorized video is now widely available at various record stores for about $15. It includes 55 minutes of personal fan filmed interviews, backstage footage & rare stuff like Gene playing Paul's Gold Top Les Paul, Gene driving a golf cart around & some un common news clips, a few MTV news clips & the P.S.A's from 1987/88 by Eric Carr, Gene & Paul. The video goes through KISSTORY breifly into a lot of Rock Walk Induction footage of Paul, Gene & Bruce, putting hands in cement & taking questions-including great quotes from Paul, Gene & Bruce, then same thing with Ace & Peter's ceremonies. Ace is there with Eric Carr's parents & George Sewitt. It then shows KISS getting their Hollywood Walk Of Fame star in full makeup. The video also includes collages of rare photos. Ending with footage from the VH1 farewell interview that wasn't shown on the actual special. Great video well worth adding to your collection.

New Spencers Exclusive Blood Splattered Gene Simmons Figure
From: Joe D. / KISS Hell Online
The new version of Gene's 1st figure is out now from McFarlane Toys. The new Gene comes with with axe bass, snake (different color) & same costume as the first series, except that it's painted differently with red on boots & armor, as well as most armor on the costume being a dark silver/black color. The new face is a demon smile that looks pretty cool (with blood dripping from the mouth). The packaging is awesome with a blood splattered case that is the coolest packaging I've seen for any McFarlane KISS figure so far. This costs $30 & is a limited edition figure exclusive to Spencers stores. Photo from Spawn.com. Click for a larger image.

Hair Of The Dog Cover's KISS Classic "I"
From: Joe D. / KISS Hell Online
The new CD from H.O.T.D. includes a cover of "I" (from The Elder). In a recent PR, guitarist John explained the strange choice; "Well if there's one common thread for this band, it's KISS. We used to close our shows with big KISS songs, but those songs have been covered to death. So we pick a bit of a rare one & made it a little more current and heavier, & then we put in little bits & pieces of other KISS songs near the end. We thought it would be a good opportunity to let people hear a song that might have gotten lost. It's also just a tribute to a band we really love."

Vinnie Paul Of Pantera Comments On KISS Farewell
From: Joe D. / KISS Hell Online
I recently interviewed Vinnie of Pantera & asked what he thought (as a fan) of KISS foing a farewell tour? "I hope it ain't the last time around for them but I'll definitely be there just in case. If it is the last time around they can all go to their own island & have anything they want & say hey there's not an ass we didn't kick somewhere on this planet. They did it all & they're great. Hats off to em." How did Pantera pick 'Cat Scratch Fever' for D.R.C.? "That was Gene Simmons. He called us & wanted us to do it & we've known the KISS guys for a while. We did a South American tour & Gene & Paul have always been interested in Pantera & always very cool to us & when they asked we were like no problem plus we're Nugent fans anyways."

COOPER & SINGER LIVE IN TULSA (10/14/99)
Alice Cooper's current lineup came through Tulsa, OK on one of the new tours last shows for an intimate show at Brady Theatre. Alice & band hit the stage with "Hello Hooray/Sideshow" & had everyone on their feet for the entire show. Eric's drums sounded like cannons in the mix & were very clear & loud in this theatre. The drum mix at times was louder than the guitars. Either way I think this is Alice's best lineup in many years. Eric's drumming takes it to another level that I haven't seen since Neal Smith with any Alice drummer.

Other songs in the set were: "Billion $ Babies", "No More Mr. Nice Guy", "Be My Lover"(with snake), "Lost In America", "18" & TONS more, there were 20 songs. Standouts were Eric's solo at the end of "Halo Of Flies" where he played a similar solo to the one on the REVENGE tour (his kit had double bass with Alice Cooper logos on each with 'Constrictor blood logo') After his familiar parts, he pulled out flaming drumsticks & played with them with the lights out, this was a killer new effect that made his solo that much more entertaining.

The Cooper show ended with songs like "Unfinished Sweet", "Schools Out", a cover of Elton's "Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting" &"Under My Wheels"(where Alice introduced the band).

Fans of Eric's drumming in KISS will surely be impressed by the job he does with Alice Cooper. This sort of show would seemingly attract the KISS sort of crowd from the number of KISS shirts I saw there.

DRAIN S.T.H. GUITARIST FLAVIA CANEL COMMENTS ON "20TH CENTURY BOY" FROM D.R.C. SOUNDTRACK.
I interviewed DRAIN guitarist Flavia Canel yesterday (9/9) & asked her about their song on the DETROIT ROCK CITY soundtrack CD & how they picked this song?
FLAVIA: "We were given like a list from the record company of songs that they wanted us to pick from and that was a song that we thought we could do something different with." "I don't know if you heard our version of 'Ace Of Spades' (it was on the re-release of Horror Wrestling) & we also slowed that song down so we did the same thing kinda with this & we slowed it down & made it into a DRAIN version & it was fun." (on recording it) "We didn't have a lot of time. We had like 1 or 2 days here in New York to just go in & do it & I had never even really played the song before we started recording it." (Will DRAIN maybe play this song live?) "You never know. We used to play 'Ace Of Spades' live but I don't really like playing covers live." (On her opinions of the DETROIT ROCK CITY movie) "I thought it was cool. We saw it before it was released in April because they wanted to know if we wanted to record a song so they took us & they showed us the movie. And in the beginning we were a little bit like 'what it this? This is weird' but after a while when you start picking up how it is, I thought it was really cool." (To read the entire Flavia Canel/Drain S.T.H. interview check out METAL HELL magazine. For more info. on METAL HELL contact Joe D./KISS HELL).

    P.C. CD Single
The European/German copies of the P.C. CD single include: PSYCHO CIRCUS(edit), RAISE YOUR GLASSES(Collectors demo version)-this version is unavailable elsewhere, PSYCHO CIRCUS (LP version) & the 7:58 disco remix of "I Was Made For Lovin' You."

    Psycho Circus Venue Stands
There are 4 different kinds of merchandise stands seen at the 98/99 P.C. shows; first, the normal t shirt stands with new tour shirts(about 6 diff.(a glow shirt-$30, a shot of KISS behind bars with dates on back-$30, a girls shirt, a long sleeve design-$40, a new all over print-$40, etc..) There's new P.C. logo hats, 2 new keychains-one plastic 2 sided-$5, & a chrome keychain-$10 & a toy car replica of the KISS Plymouth car for $10. They also sold the leather jackets($650), KISSTORY books, the Tour Edition Figures-$30 each, a waist bag & new throw rug. These booths also give away a great new color merchandise catalog(free!). There are also stands selling more expensive & very nice items like framed gold PC LP cover, a framed miniature 20 LP gold album display-$200, a PSYCHO CIRCUS drum head for $100, or $450 autographed. Apart from this there were tables taking applicants for the KISS Visa Cards and even booths set up (for the 1st time I've seen) that would professionally paint your face in KISS makeup! The KISS 3D glasses are available at the entrances as well. This is what I've seen out there so far. (I do not sell any of this stuff, it's only at the KISS shows). The goods are there & it's almost like a small KISS convention. (bring your $)

Richie Scarlet On New Sebastian Bach Live CD

    Paul Stanley Washburn 2000B Review
    By Joe D.
Paul's new Washburn model guitar (the $2,499 list priced) 2000B is the exact model used by Paul on the P.C. tour & everywhere these days. It's an awesome new design with some classic guitar features. The guitar is a cross of an Iceman, an Explorer shape with the binding & neck through body design of a Les Paul. Frets are inlaid with a pearl/abalone combination which is gorgeous. The pickup configuration is a classic & always effective set-up of 2 humbuckers (chrome colored) with 3 way toggle switch, the pickups are custom wound & sound very hot, which provides a great straight through the amp sound. The truss rod cover has Paul Stanley written in black on chrome hardware, as well as a chrome pickguard & star tailpiece with the all new Buzz Felten tuning system on the bridge. Certain shortcomings of other Paul Stanley model guitars are honed to perfection with the 2000B, the PS10 Iceman's had a common tuning problem for one thing, this guitar is impressive as you can bend notes & hear the vibrato stay in perfect pitch. This is a neck through body design. "Washburn USA-Hand made in Chicago" There are 3 models of this guitar available with varied prices & degrees of quality & craftsmanship. This is the only one with all the mentioned features, most noteably the fret inlays. They come with a hardshell case (similar to the Punisher cases) & early models include an autographed & numbered certificate of authenticity from Paul Stanley, signed by Paul, Rudy Schlacher(CEO) & Larry English(Director of Manufacturing); this comes in a nice silver Paul folder.
Washburn are also releasing 2 other rare models of this guitar;one a browish color, the other (get ready to drool) a $10,000 cracked glass Custom model identical to Paul's stage guitar!
BOTTOM LINE: The 2000B plays like a flamethrower with a nice open sound when turned down. For KISS Collectors, Paul fans, & serious guitar players of all kinds. This is the nicest guitar I've ever seen Paul put his name on. Hands down.

    KISS IN NASHVILLE 1/2/99
The DESTROYER on STEROIDS show called PSYCHO CIRCUS hit Nashville on Saturday night to a packed house of 15,000+ The merchandise stands were enough to make the eyes bleed with the rare autographed drum heads, comics, a framed gold PC album cover, etc...., another table signing up the Visa program, another painting your face in KISS makeup if you wanted, & many more standard T shirt/tourbook tables with hats, keychains, a tour edition toy car, & about 10 shirt designs. The backstage area was tense & we had problems so we went to our seats & watched the opening band which had Scotti Hill from Skid Row, the band rocked & wasn't an alternative wimpout (at least).
Next the intermission music started with Hole's 'Clebrity Skin', & lastly 'R&R Aint Noise Pollution' then shortly after 9p.m. myself & the other photographers were lead to the front of the stage to enter the pit for photos, the lights went down & the intro blasted out to the roaring crowd. The red/orange Psycho Circus curtain dropped with a pyro blast & KISS had returned; Larger Than Life! Smoke flowing all over the stage. I spent this & Shout It Out Loud getting photos for KISS HELL then went to my seat as the set continued with DEUCE, DR LOVE, DO YOU LOVE ME, COLD GIN, SHOCK ME, LET ME GO ROCK & ROLL, LOVE GUN (with Paul flying), INTO THE VOID (great 3D effects during Ace's solo), WITHIN, GOD OF THUNDER(with real flames again), 100,000 YEARS, etc... The set ended with ROCK& ROLL ALL NITE & a HUGE confetti storm & pyro display. This time the confetti were larger leaflets which blew outward & over the whole crowd. The house lights came on after R&R ALL NITE which looked like an accident since the band was literally still on stage. They went out & the encores proceeded with BETH, DETROIT(with cool car crash 3D) & BLACK DIAMOND(WITHOUT the cherry pickers & only the drum riser going up). Great show although I WAS MADE & MAKIN LOVE were cut out.
The next day I ran into Gene Simmons at the airport & presented him with the new KISS HELL which he liked, he let me peruse the Playboy layouts & they are VERY cool, with a real KISS style to them. I asked about the set list & obscure songs & Gene said "Imagine you're a football player & you're kicking the ball & everyone in the stadium thinks you're kicking it for them!" Gene signed things for many people at a small airport resraurant & then we said bye. GO SEE THIS SHOW! JOE D./KISS HELL

    Richie Scarlett Update II
Richie Scarlet talked about the following things in a phone interview with KISS HELL last Wednesday. Some things of interest are that; Richie, Sebastian Bach, Anton Fig & Larry Fisher recorded some new demos at Electric Ladyland studios with Eddie Kramer producing (in late April). These songs include: "Stop The Bleeding" & "The Most Powerful Man In The World." When the Sebastian tour resumes these 2 songs will be included as well as "Big Guns" & "Wasted Time."
Richie's new CD will be out around July (the advance copies of 75 sold out quickly at the NJ EXPO). On "OUT OF MY PAST" Richie plays harmonica for the 1st time on the songs "Psychotic Reaction" & "Dirty Water." The CD also includes TWO versions of "Hey Joe" (one not listed). What's interesting is "Hey Joe" was recorded in 1992 with James Lomenzo on bass but Richie recorded the vocals very recently. Richie says 25-27 songs were recorded for this CD & there will be a volume II out after his next original CD which he's already written 11 songs for. Some songs left from the recording sessions include "It's My Life"(Animals), "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place"(Animals), "I Can See For Miles"(The Who), "Open Up Your Door"(Richard & The Young Minds) & "We Ain't Got Nothing Yet"(Blues Magoos).
Richie Scarlet Story Volume 2-the Video is out now from Torn Ticket Prod. (5870 Ranchester Rd., #625, Houston, TX, 70036). The video includes: "She's Got Everything", "Madame X", "Hey Joe", "Rebel Boy", "Beginnings", "Sid's Dead"('Too Much Heroin'), "3'0'Clock Blues", "Angry Young Man" & 3 bonus clips from Richie's past bands. Stay tuned to KISS HELL to read our full interview with the Emperor!

    Richie Scarlet Update
I just talked with Richie "The Emperor" Scarlet for a while about 2 new projects he's finishing off now. The first is his new covers CD "OUT OF MY PAST" which includes 8-10 cover songs mainly from the year 1966. Songs include: "Talk Talk", "I Think I Had Too Much to Dream" (Electric Prunes), "Psychotic Reaction", "Dirty Water" (Standells), "Shapes Of Things"(Yardbirds), "My Way" (from Eddie Cochran- originally cut for the WISE GUY CD) & "Hey Joe." The CD was mainly recorded as a 3 piece with Richie on guitars/vocals, Michael Ford -drums & John Valente on bass. Lenny Lee also plays bass on some songs. Richie also just edited his new live video (VOLUME II) which is less bluesy & "More rocked out!" with songs from the "WISE GUY" CD like: "Madam X", "Rebel Boy" & "Too Much Heroin." The lineup on the video is Richie-guitar/vocals, Steve 'Budgie' Werner-drums & Larry Fisher on bass. Look for Richie to hit the road again with Sebastian on May 18th in Cincinnatti-for about 2 months that will take them through Canada & the west coast. (A rush released version of Richie's new CD will be available at the NJ EXPO this weekend)

KISS Hell's Nashville KISS Expo Review 3/15/98
The 1st Nashville KISS Expo. was recently held at the Nashville Armory (i/e- huge building with massive stage). Upon arriving you could see many fans with (rare) KISS shirts-(including the Ace Gibson shirt sold only in Nashville the day before at a guitar show.) Also many fans had KISS tatoos for the Expos' KISS tat contest.

MARILYN MANSON KISS STORY IN "LONG HARD ROAD OUT OF HELL" BOOK.
Marilyn Manson's new self written book contains a few references or stories about KISS, along with a photo of him dressed in Peter Criss makeup at age 7. On page 25 he says "After listening to KISS' LOVE GUN and playing with the toy pop gun that came with it, I became a card carrying member of the KISS Army and the proud owner of countless KISS dolls, comics, t-shirts and lunchboxes, none of which I was allowed to bring to school. My dad even took me to see their concert-my first-in 1979. About ten different teenagers asked him for his autograph because he was disguised as Gene Simmons from the DRESSED TO KILL album cover-complete with green suit, black wig and whit makeup." Elsewhere in the book KISS are breifly mentioned numerously.

    Paul Stanley Update
Paul very recently took some time to fill out a short Q&A for KISS HELL. There was 6 questions and Paul addressed them as follows: On the KISS Collectibles book being rumour or true: "True." About Paul changing guitars on next tour: "New Guitar Is Coming Out Soon!" On how the 'Rhinestone Iceman' was created: "During the 70's I Rhinstoned My Flying V-so It Was A Natural Step." On Paul's criteria for a guitar: "It Has To Feel Like Part Of Me." On any hints for 1998 Paul just wrote "Album/Tour-Awesome." The last question was on his thoughts of CARNIVAL OF SOULS & the musical departure(on COS): "Very Proud Of It. Bruce And Eric Were Incredible. We Record How We Feel At The Time." We also asked Paul for a signed message & as he always comes up with the coolest messages-he did again: "Stay Tuned-You Wanted The Best-You're Gonna Get It! PAUL STANLEY." (KISS HELL eXclusive '98)

    Gene $immons - Q&A/Update
In a Q&A postmarked 10/23/97, Gene gave the following answers to some recent KISS topics. On new CD info: "We're in the demo stages...so nothing to talk about yet." On who will be writing on the new KISS CD: "We'll try as much as possible to keep it within the inner circle." Why C.O.S. now? "Record company decided to go with it now. We would have waited longer but feel proud of the record nonetheless." Asking if he could tell fans about the next tour: "No. This kind of stuff is not my favorite things that fans do. I believe in surprises. I believe that knowing something too early ruins the effect. I believe it's often better not to know and just be blown away by it." "Try going to a movie and enjoying it, when you know damn well the butler did it."
